KEEPING SEASONALLY BUSY

Hello my lovelies. I hope you’ve all been having a great time in this run up to Christmas. I cannot believe that the new year is just around the corner. Did you know that there’s only 27 more sleeps until Christmas?

I have been keeping busy doing this and that. I have been working on a few Christmas presents ….

As you can see someone will be getting a pair of socks which I knitted with my very own hands. And someone else will be getting a couple of candle mats. I really enjoyed making the candle mats, I wasn’t really sure how to go about it but I think the mats turned out pretty good. I’m sure the recipient of the candle mats will appreciate them. And the last item I crafted was a knitting needle roll. If you’re a knitter, you can never have too many of these.

Nowadays, my Christmas present list isn’t very long. And I don’t hand craft as many presents as I used to. Sarah and I are both looking forward to the holidays. We’re planning on having a nice relaxing quiet time making new happy memories.

My Sarah and I have collaborated on a project recently. Sarah machine quilted a quilt for Quilts for Comfort and I added the binding. Our little pile of charity quilts is growing slowly. Life has been rather full of quiet activities for both of us and so the charity quilts are growing a little slower than we would have hoped. Slow and steady is good.

This is the time of year when I ponder what’s been happening over the past year. It’s been a quiet year of rebuilding. You can all rest assured that the simple life that I’m living nowadays is very fulfilling. Life isn’t passing me by, I’m enjoying every minute.

This past week, I helped one of my friends finish one of her projects by doing a little freemotion quilting. Boy oh boy did I ever enjoy machine quilting this jelly roll race type quilt. I filled each strip with one of three different stitching designs. Not only did I get a good old freemotion quilting practice but also, I was doing something useful. I’m quite sure the recipient of this quilt will cherish it for years to come. Does anyone else find that hand finishing the binding is quite satisfying. I sure do, especially when the rain is going past the horizontally.

I have truly enjoyed every minute of crafting over the last couple of weeks. A little knitting and a whole lot of machine sewing, kept me occupied. And not only was I busy but I found inspiration. Just when my mojo was almost non-existent, by working on my Christmas presents, I tripped on a little bit of inspiration. I guess I better get my sketchbook out and start drawing new designs to work on after Christmas.

I guess that’s my report for today. I hope you all have a super cosy evening doing something you truly enjoy. Stay warm and safe. Until next time,

Let’s all keep on stitching.

BUSY ON WEDNESDAY

Hello my lovelies. I hope you’ve all had a super day. I have been rather busy today and my energy levels are running a bit low this evening but I wanted to share today’s finish with you. As you know I have been working on Christmas lately. So, here’s a finish Christmas cushion. You will have to excuse the poor quality of the photo as the light was not very good today but you will get the gist of what I did.

As per usual, I kept my design simple. I’m very pleased with my effort because I used fabrics from my stash. I have another quilt identical in almost every way except that today’s effort was hand quilted and the other version is machine quilted. I look forward to turning the second quilt top into another cushion cover. I must admit that I’m not a great fan of Christmas projects, I would prefer to do seasonal projects such as spring or autumn.

Before heading out for my volunteer day I rotary cut some Dresden Blade. I’ve been planning another long-term project for a while. And so, I finally kicked it off today. I can’t wait to see this one come to fruition.

So, it’s been a pretty busy day in my little world. I got a little bit done before leaving the house and tried to the best of my ability to be useful at my volunteer afternoon. Now I think I deserve to put my feet up and perhaps do a little work on my hexagon project.

Well, I guess that’s my report for today. I’m a little late posting today. I guess it’s better late than never. I hope you all have a super cosy evening. Until next time,

Let’s all keep on stitching.

BANK HOLIDAY REPORT

Hello my lovelies. I hope you’ve all had a super weekend. Yesterday was a bank holiday here in England. It was lovely to pull into the slow lane and watch the scenery for a day. Not only was yesterday a bank holiday but this week is a mid-term break for the schools as well. I suspect that a lot of families decided to go to the sun for a week-long break. So, I guess it will be quiet around here for the duration of the week.

So let’s jump to the sewing progress. The only progress I can show you at the moment is this …..

I added a few buttons to my Christmas project. And I managed to find some fabric in my stash to use for the cushion envelope. I was determined to use something from my stash to complete my Christmas projects, and I found something for each of my three projects.

I can’t believe that it’s almost the end of May already. Where on earth have the weeks gone. Speaking of the end of May ….. today is May 29th, it’s Lucie Landing Day. I arrived in the UK 25 years today!!! A whole quarter of a century. All those years ago when I was so green and shiny I thought life was going to be a fairy tale. I worked hard to get to where I am today. Over the last couple of years, I take every opportunity to celebrate to positive stuff. I think I shall crack open a bottle of wine to toast this anniversary.

The progress in my garden is coming on a treat. I had a little stroll in my wee garden this afternoon to see what I could see. I found some Aquilegia in different colours …..

And some wild geraniums that self-seed themselves every year. My favourite is the deep purple one …

And last, my very favourite flower, the lowly peony which is still not ready to flower. We’ll need a bit more sunshine before these flowers burst into blooms. Everything is lush green at the moment. It’s the best time of year for greenery.

Here’s photo of a postcard which I believe my Sarah purchased for me a while back. I walk past this postcard every single day because I tacked it to the wall …..

What this postcard says to me is that anything worth having is worth the effort and patience is definitely a virtue.

So, I guess that’s my report for today. I’ve been busy with a whole lot of stuff for which I have not made enough progress to show you yet. So, stay tuned to find out what else has been going on in my little world. I hope you all have a super cosy evening doing something that makes you happy. Until next time,

Let’s all keep on stitching.
