THE ROWS ARE GROWING

Hello my lovelies. I hope you’re all having an enjoyable day. Times are different around here in my little corner of the northeast of England. There’s more traffic going past my house these days. We have a bit more freedom all the while staying alert. I’m still not going very far or very often. I feel quite safe at home at the moment. Like everyone else, I’ll probably soon be venturing out a little further from home while respecting social distancing.

Along with a few household chores and safely welcoming a chartered surveyor into my home, I have made more progress on my row quilt. All the blocks have been prepped ready for fine hand appliqué stitching. Here’s what I’ve got so far …..

Row Quilt Progress

And here’s the stack of blocks that will become the last row which doesn’t fit on the display board along with the other five rows …..

Heart Blocks

Today is not the ideal day for taking photos indoors or out. This afternoon it’s overcast but not raining yet. So, you’ll have to excuse the poor quality of the photos. I have enjoyed prepping these blocks. And now I’ve got a nice quiet job to work on while watching mindless TV in the evening. No doubt there will be endless hot drinks consumed while I work on this little lot. I love a bit of Freezer Paper appliqué work me.

Life is much more relaxed now. The fear of the invisible enemy is dissipating slowly. Each day is more interesting than the last. Progress is being made, just a little every single day. We have to be brave and strong and keep moving forward.

Well, my lovely friends, I guess that’s my news for today. I hope you all have a super cosy evening doing something that makes you ever so happy. Until next time,

Let’s all keep on stitching.

FEATHERED VISITS

Hello my lovelies. I hope you’re all enjoying the month of May so far. It’s been pretty good in my little corner of the northeast of England. It seems the weather has taken a downturn for the moment. It’s brrrr cold. It’s a bank holiday weekend and quite often we have rain on these holiday weekends. So not much change there. I have a great weekend planned full of chores and fun things to do. So, watch this space.

I have been doing a little bit of designing and block piecing of late. I finished piecing the project and spent part of the morning adding a border …..

And here’s a little sneaky peek at two bits of my quilt top …..

I might reveal a little more once the quilting is done.

Now while I was piecing and attaching the border to my latest project, I saw some movement outside my window. It took me a little while to work out what said movement was. There was a wee robin flying around my back garden gathering twiggy bits. I suspect that the wee robin is building a nest somewhere nearby. And of course, the wee robin was moving far too quickly for me to snap a photo. However the wee robin kept flying into my little teapot ornament to have a rest …..

I don’t think the robin is building a nest in my teapot because the opening is far to large but it was nice to see it standing/sitting in the teapot resting now and again. We always had a resident robin in years gone by but I haven’t seen it in a while. I hope the wee robin visits me again and often. I’ll be sure to top up the feeders and bird bath regularly just to encourage such birdy visits.

So, I guess that’s my report for this week. I hope you’ve all had a productive week. As I mentioned earlier, it’s a bank holiday weekend here in the UK. I there’s nothing like a long weekend to get a few seasonal jobs done. I was kind of hoping to plant my annual bedding plants this weekend but the weatherman is forecasting frost at night so I’ll leave it for a few more days. I hope you all have a super cosy evening doing something you truly enjoy doing. I plan on doing some hexie work while watching a new episode of The Bletchley Circle. I do enjoy a good murder mystery. Until next time,

Let’s all keep on stitching.

ON A WINTER’S DAY

Hello my lovelies. I hope you’ve all had an enjoyable day. We’ve had snow, snow and more snow today. And there’s more to come. I just hid in my sewing room longarm quilting to my little heart’s content.

I finally finished quilting my Dresden quilt today. I clicked the on switch at 9am and carried on until the job was finished. The quilt still needs to be bond and labelled but I just needed to show you a little progress of all the effort I put into this simple quilt. Here’s a sneaky peek …..

I’m going to sew in all the thread ends this evening and I hope to bind and label it tomorrow. I am so please with this quilt. I think this one is going to be hung in my living room where I can see it every day. I will be sure to show it off before it goes up on the wall. It feels so good to have almost completed this quilt. This is one project that started on paper as a drawing and I was able to bring it to fruition. I will post more photos when the binding has been added.

I did a little bit of fine hand appliqué work last evening. I’m really enjoying this hand appliqué work. Here’s a little peek …..

Does anyone else do fine appliqué work out there? Do you love it as much as I do? My favourite appliqué method is using freezer paper. However, I recently finished a raw edge machine appliqué project and it looks great but I didn’t find it as satisfying as hand appliqué.

I mentioned yesterday that the weather forecast for this week was going to be a bit full of snow and cold. Well the wind has set in and is definitely driving the snow. We’re experiencing plenty of falling snow and the wind is very cold indeed. You would think that I would be used to kind of weather because I was born and bred in Montreal where the winters are really hard. I have definitely softened up over the two+ decades I have spent in the UK. The weather, although very damp, is much milder here in the UK winters than ever they were in Montreal. I was quite pleased to hide in my sewing room today. Sarah had no such lucky as she had to travel to uni for a studio session.

I guess that’s my report for today. I hope you all have a super cosy evening. Snuggle down and enjoy a relaxing evening. Until next time,

Let’s all keep on stitching
